Wellness program to begin at Drury University

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- Drury University is starting a wellness program designed to help students and the broader community.

The program will start in fall 2012. It will allow freshmen to earn a wellness certificate using curriculum developed collaboratively between Drury and the Cleveland Clinic - a medical education center.

Drury says in a news release that students will complete one class per semester for eight semesters. There will be online and seated courses that cover diet, exercise, stress management, gender specific health issues and other courses based on a student's interests and wellness challenges.

Students nearing graduation will be sent into the community to work with businesses, schools and not-for-profits to help develop wellness programs

The certificate counts for seven credit hours toward a Drury undergraduate degree.
